Senior Solutions Designer

Durham Professional Services is delighted to be working in partnership with our client to recruit the post of Senior Solutions Designer. This role is being offered on an initial 6 months Fixed term Contract (salaried.) This role can be working from home (WFH).

The Senior Solutions Designer will work within a project or programme environment, to design and deliver the most complex solutions for an application or suite of applications.

Key Duties Include:-

  • Evaluate business requirements and lead the preparation of solution options based on contributing factors such as cost, technical complexity, market trends, future maintainability and end user experience. Advise senior business stakeholders on the recommended option based on a thorough risk benefit analysis.Architect solutions that span business, application, infrastructure and data.
  • Lead in, and accountable for, creation of detailed designs, program specifications and technical plans that form the blueprint for the Solution Designers and Developers to build the components and interfaces for the IT solution.
  • Full accountability for design integrity and solution quality.
  • Provide realistic estimates on the delivery effort in terms of time, resources and budgets required to deliver and implement solutions to the Programme or Project Manager.
  • Technical coordination/oversight of multiple third party vendors.
  • In collaboration with peers, define and manage ACCA solution design methodologies and processes and lead best practice development across solution architecture, design and development.
  • Responsible for delivery into service of software components and applications
  • Provide support to live operations when required, by troubleshooting issues and proposing adequate fixes

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Educated to degree level or possess an equivalent level of experience, ideally in a computing or business related discipline
    Experience across the full software development lifecycle with a real focus on design
  • Working with development partners, ideally with off-shore services
  • Mentoring team members in technical skills
  • Both waterfall and agile (SCRUM) methodologies
  • Strong understanding of industry standard software design methodologies: object oriented design, Use Cases and UML
  • Proven track record of project delivery using:
    • Front end development technologies
    • Content Management Systems
    • HTML
    • Adobe Core Components
    • OIDC/OAuth2.0
    • SAML 2
    • Git / automated deployment tools
    • Automated testing methods
  • Self-motivated, well organised, able to manage own workload and proactively respond to changing priorities, meet tight deadlines while maintaining quality delivery
  • Good team player, able to use influencing skills working in a complex organisation within multi-disciplined project teams
  • Ability to apply effective technical judgment, prioritisation and decision-making
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with an ability to convey technical concepts to a non-technical audience and also to communicate on technical subjects with geographically dispersed project team members
  • Previous experience of working on larger scale projects
  • Understanding of people management skills and requirements
  • Conversant with best practice methodologies in their area of expertise, and able to take a pragmatic approach to their practical application
