Systems Administrator

Durham Professional Services has a requirement for an experienced Systems Administrator who is eager to use and grow his or her technological skills on a global scale. In this role, the successful individual will protect our client’s critical information, systems, and assets, build solutions, implement new software and hardware, provide training, and assist in the development of an overall IT strategy.

This role will help empower breakthrough innovations, be given challenging assignments, lead initiatives, and take ownership and responsibility. The ideal candidate will be passionate about applying their skills to technology-based business model that creates real-world solutions.

Applicants to this role will be involved in: -

  • Primary responsibilities for the full support & management of the on-premises and cloud infrastructure estates including backups and archiving, software updates, data security, hardware provisioning, asset tracking, policy deployment and enterprise configuration.
  • Other duties also include the support & management of the workstation and mobile estate including device imaging & deployment, software updates, software packaging, application delivery, asset tracking, policy deployment, file and print services and enterprise configuration.
  • Receives and logs requests for support from service desk, monitoring tools and other service delivery staff and/or users; investigate problems and other requests for support and determines appropriate actions to take. Prioritises requests in accordance with agreed criteria and with reference to Line Manager.
  • Monitor progress of requests for support and ensure users and other interested parties are kept informed.
  • Provide correct responses to requests for support by making modifications to system parameters, developing workarounds or site-specific enhancements, reconfiguring systems, changing operating procedures, producing additional documentation, or escalating requests to software & hardware suppliers. Ensure all work is carried out and documented in accordance with required standards, methods, and procedures.

It is expected that candidates will have the following key skills and experience: -

  • Experience of supporting the following environments.
    • Office 365/Hybrid
    • Windows Server 2012+
    • Active Directory
    • Multi-Site and remote support
    • VMWare/vSphere V6
    • MS Azure
    • Backup and Recovery technologies including Veeam.
    • Networking fundamentals

 

  • Experience of supporting enterprise level storage systems including.
    • SAN (Hpe/Hitachi)
    • iSCSI
    • Fibre Channel

 

  • Supporting Web (IIS) and Database (MSSQL) servers in highly available configurations
  • Knowledge of management languages and technologies including.
    • Powershell/VBS/CLI
    • WMI Object Model
  • Be familiar with techniques which help in modelling and understanding a business and its operation
