Durham Professional Services is delighted to be working on behalf of our multinational client, based in the heart of Glasgow, to recruit a Cloud Operations Professional. This role has been determined to be Inside IR35 .this is a UK based role but hybrid working is possible.

The role of the Cloud Operations Specialist is to support the Technical Manager by providing technical best practice, oversight and assurance over the operation of AWS and Microsoft Azure platforms, acting as a SME conduit between customers, suppliers and the broader organisation.

This person will work closely with the Architecture, Security, Release and Supplier Management teams, as well as key IT partners to drive solutions through our key vendor relationships.

The Cloud Operations Specialist will also have accountability for the cascade of relevant AWS\Azure operational reports and dashboards which demonstrate the health of cloud platforms.

Key activities for this role include:

  1. Work closely with client IT Partners to deliver and support services across Azure and AWS platforms, maximising uptime, controlling cost and sprawl whilst rigorously enforcing best practice and recommendations.

 

  1. Work closely with the Technical Manager, to identify and provide prioritisation and guidance on operational improvements to IT services, working with our agreed vendors and key partners to deliver these improvements.

 

  1. Work closely with the Cyber Security function to deliver an improved IT security landscape, through the delivery of platform patching, tighter account controls and good Cyber Security governance.

 

  1. Manage reporting dashboards of the operational health of client IT services, including a look ahead at demand and capacity planning forecasts. This will include highlighting issues and risks and suggesting and implementing solutions to contain and remediate these problems.

 

  1. Act as a key member of the technical Design authority this role will provide subject matter expertise during the governance and solution design approval processes for new proposed technical solutions using a “Cloud First, Cloud Appropriate” viewpoint.

 

To perform this role successfully, it is expected that applicants will have the following key skills and experience: -

  • Azure Fundamentals and\or AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner certification essential with related Microsoft\AWS solutions architecture qualifications desirable.
  • Demonstrable experience of working in a multi-cloud organisation, focusing on AWS and\or Microsoft Azure services.
  • Hands on networking experience of Direct Connect\Express Route and the connectivity to physical datacentre services is desirable.
  • Demonstrable working knowledge of Microsoft\Amazon Web Services technologies such as M365, Azure AD, D365, Oracle RDS, Workspaces, Guard Duty, Sentinel would be advantageous.
  • Capacity and cost control experience of Azure\AWS is essential.
